Dadipark was opened in october 1949 in the belgium town of Dadizeele. It was until it closed in 2003 one of the oldest amusement park of belgium. Since 2003 nature is slowly invading the deserted park, closed after an accident.

Post apocalyptic Dioramas

 

Lori Nix is a New York based photographer who specializes in constructing dioramas and photographing these. One of her projects is "The City" showing a post apocalyptic dioramas of Art museums, Broadway theaters, laundromats and bars etc.

She tells also that she's very interested in depicting danger and disaster, and greatly influenced by landscape painting, particularly the Hudson River School and the Romantic painter Casper David Friedrich.

Why doesn't this surprise me.

The New Art of Making Ruins

Fascinating documentary about the decay of Havana. There are many ruins in Havana, some are still inhabited. The documentary shows incredible scenes and also interesting interviews of people living there, who are explaining their situation with a certain kind of grim humour, which may be the only way to survive under circumstances like this.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. the ruins of Chernobyl

Here some pictures of another shooter game. "S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl". It’s made by the Ukrainian developer GSC Game World and published in 2007.

The background is borrowed from Andrei Tarkovsky’s film Stalker and the graphics are influenced by the abandoned city of Prypiat.

At least it’s another example for how popular ruins are among video gamers.

Miru Kim: In Love with Ruins

Miru Kim is a Korean American artist living in New York. She explores industrial ruins and underground tunnels in New York, Berlin, Paris and other places. There she photographs herself nude. In her own words: "Nature had really reclaimed the whole complex … a human figure in the picture to become a part of that nature."



This clip shows Miru Kim in 2008 talking about her work. I like her point of view and her way of talking about her work and last not least her photos.
