Probably a scene from a comic, done by the French comic book artist Enki Bilal.

Post-Apocalyptic Warriors

Two covers of Heavy Metal Magazine with the popular apocalyptic warrior chicks. Sure, it's more about pin-up than about warrior, but that's mostly like this with post-apocalyptic stuff.

Creepy Gothic Ruins

Two older Creepy covers where typical horror ruins still have been medieval Gothic.

Definitely the USA

Two covers of the post apocalyptic comic Mighty Samson where the hero fights some strange enemies. It's easy to see that all happens in the USA. There are the emblematic ruins of the Chrysler Building and of the Capitol.

Post Apocalyptic Paris

These beautiful illustrations of a post apocalyptic Paris are from the French comic book series Les Eaux de Mortelune by Philippe Adamov. I don't think that there is an English edition.

Damned by the Apocalypse

I Dannati Della Catastrofe (Damned by the Catastrophe) is an Italian comic book published in July 1975. Despite it's a real bad, bad comic the cover is quite good.

Hombre and Lady Liberty

Some more illustrations from the fascinating comics series Hombre written by Antonio Segura and drawn by José Ortiz. Here our hero is smoking on the ruins of Lady Liberty while the vultures are circulating above New York. But it's no peaceful world at all.

DMZ: Dystopian New York

DMZ is a comic book series written by Brian Wood, with artwork by Wood and Riccardo Burchielli. The series is set in a dystopian future. After a second American civil war the island of Manhattan is the DMZ (demilitarized zone) in the battle between forces of the United States of America and secessionist Free States of America.
Whatever, I like the dark artwork and always wonder less why 9/11 had to happen in New York.

The Carnival of Immortals

The graphic novel "The Carnival of Immortals" (1980) written and illustrated by the French cartoonist and storyteller Enki Bilal is the first part of the Nikopol Trilogy. The story is set in a dystopian Paris in 2023. The city is ruled by a fascist dictator, all is decaying and succumbing to chaos.
To me the story doesn’t look very interesting but there are a lot of nice artwork of an decaying city.

Comic: 28 Days Later

28 Days Later is a comic book series written by Michael Alan Nelson and drawn by Declan Shalvey and Alejandro Aragon. It’s based on the British horror film 28 Days Later (2002) and follows the events of this film before it’s sequel 28 Weeks Later.

Great Britain and Europe are devastated by the Rage Virus, which turns people into Zombies. So despite it’s another interpretation of the very popular subject, it’s a very appealing and well done comic series which stands out a lot against the normal zombie stuff.

FreakAngels 5

The great webcomic FreakAngels by Warren Ellis and Paul Duffield is still going on. Volume 5 is in the stores now for everyone who wants it printed. I like especially this mixture of steampunk and decay in partly flooded London.

Post apocalyptic Western

Jeremiah is a Belgian comic book series by Hermann Huppen. In a post-apocalyptic world, where racial wars have destroyed the USA, Jeremiah and his friend Kurdy are facing a series of adventures. The post-apocalyptic USA are depicted as kind of Wild West with some modern weapons.
Despite Jeremiah was very successful in Europe the series never was a success in the USA. Maybe it’s despite all the Western scenery too European after all. Nevertheless there was made the American television series Jeremiah based on the comic books.

Crude Bloody Mary

Bloody Mary is a crude comic book series written by Garth Ennis and illustrated by Carlos Ezquerra abot an nun who is also a highly trained soldier. Returned to New York she finds it destroyed by foreign facists She fights the enemies, turning more fascist like these.

Anyway it’s an especially stupid comic, only of some interest because the iconographic Lady Liberty in ruins provides the whole topic of it.

Hombre: Post Apocalyptic Comic

Hombre is a Spanish comics series written by Antonio Segura and drawn by José Ortiz and was first published in 1981 in the magazine Cimoc.

Hombre lives in an America after the collapse of the technological civilization. He is sort of a post-apocalyptic cowboy and many of the people populating the ruined citues look (and behave) like zombies, long before these became fashionable in post-apocalyptic films and comics.

It’s a dark well drawn comic series which may have influenced even Stephen King’s Dark Tower series.

Ruins to Rob

A Tom Raider comic with the famous heroine Lara Croft.

Despite ruins are crucial in Tomb Raider, they never have any (romantic) value of their own. Like Indiana Jones Lara Croft is totally unsentimental. Ancient ruins exist for her only to be robbed, to look for treasures. Don’t mind if they are destroyed by the way. In absolutely no way Lara could be an archaeologist, she combines the mentality of buccaneer with that of a bank robber.

Transformers vs. Lady Liberty

An edition of a Transformers comic book. We see once more Lady liberty as the icon of destruction. “Humanity at it’s lowest point”, as it is called.

Some covers of the comic book series "The Walking Dead". One of my favorites. In my humble opinion the covers are really great art.

Industrial Gothic is a comic book series illustrated by Ted McKeever and published in 1995. The story is settled somewhere in a dystopian future with lots of nice ruins.
The images are from volume 1.
