Böcklin's Tomb

This painting by the German artist Ferdinand Keller (1842-1922) refers to the Swiss Symbolist painter Arnold Böcklin and his most famous painting "Isle of the Dead".

Böcklin's Tomb is no ruin, but it’s already covered by plants and well integrated into nature. Ashes to ashes…

  1. I do not know, thanks for bringing it here.
I've always been attracted to these landscapes and these atmospheres.
As if it had been there.
    Ashes to ashes ..

  2. I saw the actual painting recently and was really moved by it. I've since been looking for more information/thoughts about it, with little succes.

  3. I don't think there's much to say. It's a typical Neo-Romantic painting from the end of the 19th century and a homage to Arnold Böcklin's famous painting.
So if you have seen "Isle of the Dead" it's more or less clear.
